With 1.3 billion population, India has the second largest population in the world after China, and is expected to become the most populous nation in the world around 2022. Since Prime Minister MODI came to power in 2014, India has been actively inviting foreign capital, and promoting economic structural reforms such as deregulation and infrastructure development to achieve economic growth centering on the manufacturing industry under the slogan of “Make-in-India”. In spite of temporary economic growth slowdown due to the abolition of high-denomination notes, India has continued to grow at a high rate of over 7.0% since the inauguration of the MODI administration. On the other hand, many SMEs might feel hesitant to expand their business into India, due to various barriers including cultural differences such as religion and caste system, infrastructure, and difficulty of labor management, as well as images that Japanese overseas success models are not suitable for the India’s market and it is difficult to make profits. This seminar offers an opportunity to think about business chances in India for SME manufactures. |
